We aim to diminish healthcare disparities in Ithaca, NY in order to create a more equitable and sustainable society for refugees. We attain this by (1) reaching diverse populations in need, (2) promoting health education and access to healthcare services, and (3) enhancing social integration and community engagement.

The core goals of RISE UP at Cornell are the following:

Promote health education and access​

• Develop and lead educational seminars in collaboration with physicians, professors, and other professional experts focused on informational resources related to healthcare education systems, enrollment processes for children in schools, adult education and employment opportunities, and how to access ESL support.

• Conduct workshops through guest speakers and under the supervision of professors at Cornell University to share information to underserved communities in the Ithaca community and at Cornell on utilizing health insurance, managing common gender-related diseases, understanding nutrition and its impact on metabolic diseases, diabetes management, self-hygiene, pregnancy, and family planning.

• Collaborate with local healthcare professionals, professors, and community leaders to host informational sessions based on the above topics  discussed.

• Translate these resources in other languages as needed.

 

Enhance refugee integration and community engagement​

• Offer information on community resources to refugees for utilizing public transportation and navigating local resources, such as ESL classes and free clinics.

• Foster community engagement by organizing events and activities that bring together the Ithaca community and Cornell community.

 

Share the previously mentioned informational resources though social and fundraising events, as well as our website and social medias under the supervision of faculty advisors, professional, and community leaders.
